It was a 2-2 game bottom of the 8th Bogey on first with one out and one of the Yankees' best relieves up in Betances. That was when the hopes and dreams of all Yankee fans were crushed. Big Papi took a bad slider all the way for a 2 RUN DING DONG OVER THE MONSTER!! The Yankees' bullpen all of a sudden looked beatable. The Yankees suck chant was all around Fenway. Kimbrel gets his 7th save and the Red Sox win!
That was the dramatic ending to a great game but let's start from the beginning. Henry Owens shaved his long locks from the advice of Pedroia to get out of his slump. It worked. He was wild and let 10 people on, but did not let the game get out of hand. His start looked way worse than it actually was. He induced 4 double plays! He came up big when he was in a jam and ended strong. He went 6 innings with 6 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned runs, 3 walks, and 3 strikeouts. He did what he needed to do to keep the game close for the Red Sox to strike back and the goal was achieved!
Tanka looked dominate for 6 innings, but it all came apart in the 7th. The Red Sox couldn't get anything going, but all of a sudden it just clicked. He gave up a huge game tying double to JBJ after back to back singles from Shaw and Holt! Tanka went 6.2 innings with 6 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned runs, and 5 strikeouts. Koji came in the 8th to lock it down and got the win! You know what happens next.
This win could be a kick starter for the Red Sox. The Yankees are struggling and now we have our two best pitchers in Porcello and Price to finish off this series. Big Papi is on pace for another 30 and 100 season and he's 40 years old. WOW. He again does not look like he's retiring and let's soak this all in. One of the greatest of all time! The grit and grind of this team is amazing. We never give up. We're the comeback kids with the 2013 vibe oozing all around us!
Final: Red Sox 4 - Yankees 2!

Kimbrel redeems himself
Rick Porcello is now 4-0 with his 12th straight start of 6.1 or more innings, leading the AL. He was dealing today. It was a pitcher's duel all night and Pretty Ricky came out on top. He went 6.1 innings with 4 hits, 2 walks, and 6 strikeouts. The Vasquez effect keeps working as his era drops to below 4! He only needs 1 run to dominate and he did it again tonight. He also swung the bat pretty well too. He has more hits this year than the injured fat fuck Pablo. A pitcher has more hits than a position player. Just let that sink in. That's how bad Pablo is. I can also tell he's been taking up base running lessons from the master himself, Hustle Hanley. Porcello flew down the line. He's gonna be the first player ever to win the AL CY Young and NL Silver Slugger for pitcher. What a game, What a pitcher, What a great catcher behind the plate!
JBJ provided the only run the Red Sox needed to pull off the win. He hit a solo shot to right field in the 7th. He's a streaky hitter, just like the team, but when he is on, he's raking. He became our savior again and continues his hot streak. His swing is so beautiful when he's right. I love it!
The bullpen was another strong point tonight. The Lawn Mower, Robbie Ross Jr, came into the 7th with 2 on and 1 out and did not allow a run! He mowed them all down and threw Aybar the nastiest breaking ball to strike him out and end the inning. Maybe it's the Vasquez effect again, but Robbie Ross Jr looks really good this season. Who knew he could pitch this well. Koji came into the 8th and did his normal thing. He struck out one and kept it scoreless. The difference between Koji's fastball and the nasty split makes him so hard to hit off of. It's so fun to watch. High fives for everyone! And finally, Kimbrel gets the save he's been looking for. After the blown save last night, he needed a night like tonight to start fresh. He was dominate again and struck out two. Game Over. THE RED SOX WIN AND ARE NOW OVER 500 AT 10-9!

Is Porcello our number 2?
Who would've thought that through 2 weeks Rick Porcello would look like our best number 2 starter. I know for fact I sure wouldn't have. It has to be the Christian Vasquez effect in work because he did it again today. On a day where the Red Sox bats were alive, Pretty Ricky went 7 innings with 6 hits, 3 runs, 3 earned runs, 1 walk, and 9 strikeouts. He has found his form and is finally doing something the Red Sox starting pitchers haven't seen so far which is consistency. Props to him for pitching well, but even more props to Vasquez for pressing his buttons and making him click. It's a magical duo that can cause some harm for the future. Keep it going Pretty Ricky.
The Red Sox offense is so streaky. We went from a one hitter shutout last night to 7 runs tonight. Mookie came out of his slump tonight. He was 2-3 with a 2 run shot over the monstah! Big Papi just keeps owning Chris Archer! He has a .380 average with 2 hrs, 3 doubles, 14 rbis, and 3 walks. What a beast! He doesn't look like he's slowing down anytime soon as he leads the AL with 7 doubles. He went 2-4 with 3 rbis.
Bogey left the game with left quad tightness and is considered day to day. It's not a serious issue and it's times like these that we're thankful to have the Brockstar on our team! Let's win the series tomorrow boys!

ROBBIE ROSS MOWED THEM ALL DOWN
After a meltdown from their bullpen, the Red Sox needed a strong outing from Kelly and the story ends there. Joe Kelly of course worked so hard that he hurt his shoulder in only .2 of an inning. He left the game with shoulder impingement (whatever the hell that is) and is now on the 15 day DL. It'll probably be 6 weeks until he'll pitch again. It's sad for someone who had a great spring training and end of the year last year. The bullpen took over after he left and the bullpen was the story of the night until extras. Heath Hembree, who was just called up today, was just what we needed right after Kelly went down. He went 3.1 innings pitched with 2 hits, no runs, no walks, and 4 strikeouts. The other high light was the lawn mower, Robbie Ross Jr. He mowed hitters down for 3 innings only allowing a hit with 4 strikeouts. Most fans cringe when they see him coming him to the game based off of his previous track record, but today was a pleasant surprise. He was great and hopefully we see him mow more hitters down in the future.
Tazawa and Kimbrel posted fine outings allowing no runs but then the bullpen got shakey. In the 10th inning, Matt Barnes gave up three runs with only 1 earned. He gave up a solo shot to Kiermaier to break the tie and then a double and intentional walk followed. A big error by Shaw gave the Rays the bases loaded with two outs. It was Shaw's fault, but in his defense it was a really hard hit ball that almost went off his glove. It was a tough play. It could've ended the inning, but then it got ugly. Layne gave up a ground rule double to Jennings and it was history. The Red Sox couldn't come back in the tenth and lost.
The offense was invisible for the whole game. Drew Smyly went 8 innings with only 1 hit, 2 walks, and 11 strikeouts. The Rays offense was missing too, until the tenth inning when it exploded. WHY DID JOHN FARRELL NOT PUT BROCK HOLT INTO THE GAME. He was on the bench and we were tied up in the ninth with JBJ coming up to bat. JBJ hasn't done good offensively this season so far and Brock HAS. The brockstar provides easy pop and hits well against lefties and rightites. PLAY TO WIN THE GAME JOHN FARRELL. HOLT NEEDS TO PLAY MORE and this was a perfect opportunity for him. COME ON. It looks like we'll be saying goodbye to you in the near future if nothing changes. So, adios John.

Kill the Win
Another quality start for Steven Wright and another loss. A moment like this makes me join the kill the win movement. Wright pitched 6 innings with 6 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned runs, 0 walks (that's impressive for a knuckleballer), and 6 strikeouts and still got the loss. If we just could've provided some offense then he would not be 0-2. It was hard to provide offense when Aaron Sanchez was on his game. He had 4 no hit innings and went 7 full innings with 2 hits, 1 run, 1 earned run, 4 walks, and 7 strikeouts. He was great and looked like the same night where Estrada was pitching when we just couldn't hit anything.
The newest Red Sox call up and rookie, Marco Hernandez, started his career off with a bang. He continued his hot spring training and recorded his first hit, stolen base, and run in the majors. He got a single and then stole second and with the throwing error by Martin, he took third. He showed great heads up base running and can be a spark plug to this offense. He's a hard worker and shows the same grit and grind like Dustin Pedroia, the same player he took his spot from today. I'm excited to watch him play when he gets the chance to.
The Mayor of Ding Dong City got his first of many ding dongs. It was the ninth inning and the Sox were down 5-1. Hanley Ramirez was on first with a single and then the Mayor went bang! It was a bullet shot to right field that creeped over the wall. Bautista almost had it.

Pretty Ricky Looking Pretty
First really dominant game by a Red Sox pitcher against a really good offense and it is by none other than Rick Porcello. He worked really well with Christian Vasquez. He was like a whole new pitcher with him behind the plate. He pounded the ball inside a lot and got a lot of ground balls, just like a sinker baller should. Just like in the game in Toronto, he had one nemesis and the rest didn't do anything. It was Edwin Encarnacion, or should I say the next Red Sox DH proclaimed by Papi. He went 2-3 with the 2 home runs and the lone 3 rbis for Toronto. Everyone else was apart of Porcello's dominance. Porcello provided a lot of 1-2-3 innings for the Sox that you couldn't keep track. It was a great performance. He went 6.1 IP 2 H 3 R 3 ER 1 BB 8 SO and got the win.
The ball was flying today and so many players were so close to a home run but ended up with doubles. Big Papi was one of them. He looks so good this year that he should never retire, but it's better to look great during your last run than look awful. We don't want to see another Kobe retirement tour. He was a great player, but the tour was awful with his poor performance overall and with such a bad team. I'm glad Papi is going out on his terms and not being forced out by an injury. He also channeled his inner Jackie Robinson today with a stolen bag. He now has 2 in his career and I think it's safe to say that he'll lead the league this year in stolen bags. He's the baseball GOAT.

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
The Good: Christian Vasquez. He is being called up for tomorrow's game and is ready to work. I am happy with this decision. He is a great defender and he calls a game very well. He is the pitcher that all pitchers want to pitch to and with a struggling pitching staff, that's the best move to do. He also worked well with Porcello and guess who is pitching on tomorrow. Pitching and defense wins games and Vasquez is more superior with those aspects than Swihart is. Christian also has a cannon for an arm and can throw out anyone which helps us get easy outs. I think Swihart will be demoted to triple A and will work on his game and eventually be called up mid season for depth or an injury.
The Bad: Rusney Castillo. He hasn't adjusted to American style Baseball yet and it's earned him a demotion. He couldn't play consistently well enough to earn a starting spot out of the gate and there's no real use for him as bench player. He needs to be getting constant reps to get better and hopefully show the Red Sox the player he was in Cuba and a bench role won't do that. A $69.1 million dollar bench player with no proven track record in America does not go well with teams trying to trade for him so trade rumors have been almost none for him. With no where to go for him, he has finally be demoted to triple A and hopefully he can get his reps and show us the good player in him.
The Ugly: Pablo Sandoval. He is useless to the Red Sox right now with his fatass on the bench. The Red Sox are putting a high quality on defense and Pablo can't live up to those standards. Shaw has made some great defensive plays and has showed us that he can. Pablo has a "shoulder strain" which landed him on the 15 Day DL. He did not even get an MRI (which is normal protocol) till a day later after it was announced because the Red Sox did not think it was worth it. They took any chance they could to get him off the team for now and when Pablo said his shoulder was hurting him, boom there it was. They called up Josh Rutledge who can play 3 infield positions and is already more useful than panda ever was. They gave him a strict conditioning plan to work on while on the DL and told Panda that they won't play him unless he loses weight or a terrible injury happens to the team. Pablo wants to be an everyday player in Boston and if the offseason was any sign of it he's not going to lose the weight, so good bye Pablo! I think they should just give up and eat most of his contract and basically give him to the Padres for free. It would be like a burden off our shoulders.

Runs: We can't keep giving them up
"I'm dying to describe a 1-2-3 inning, we haven't had many this season" (Dave O'Brien). I feel you Dave, I feel you. This has been the storyline of the season so far. Our starting pitching has sucked. We can't give up 8 runs a game and expect to keep winning. It is just not possible, even with a great streaky lineup. Clay Buchholz looked like he redeemed himself for the first 4 innings but after that, he fell apart. He allowed 5 earned runs with 3 walks and 5 hits over 5 innings. One day Red Sox nation prays for just a decent start by Clay Buchholz.
It has only been 7 games but our bullpen has been over used already. Our starters have only gone 35.2 IP giving up 29 ER and only Steven Wright has recorded 2 outs after the sixth inning (Boston Globe). If our pitchers can't give us 6 full good innings then our bullpen is going to fail eventually. They'll be used too much causing fatigue in their arms and won't have their best stuff. It makes the whole situation worse and there is nothing we can do for now.
Ortiz hits #506 on his necklace give away night. People came for Big Papi and he did not let them down. He has three home runs so far in the season. PLEASE DON'T LEAVE US AFTER THIS SEASON DAVID.
Another questionable move by Farrell today. He pitch hit Shaw again for Young in the 8th. We just got a run and we had Big Papi on second with only 1 out. I know Farrell is trying to find time for Young to play because we're facing a lot of righties in a row right now, but Travis Shaw won the starting job for a reason. Young was 1-6 against the pitcher pitching and Shaw has a .325 average against lefties overall. I want to see Travis hit more. Please Farrell make that happen.

The price was almost Wright
After two games in Toronto where the bats exploded, the bats barely fizzled today. Marco Estrada had the Red Sox numbers this game. He went 7 IP with 5 H 0 R 0 ER 2 BB 8 SO. He was dominate, something Stroman and Dickey were not. He had a nasty change up and a great fastball and the Red Sox just didn't figure him out. The Blue Jays bullpen did not fail today (surprisingly) and Estrada got the win.
Wright was the other storyline. He looked more like the number two starter today than Price, Kelly, and Porcello ever did. That's how bad our rotation is. Wright pitched great. He had a rough first inning with a passed ball and rare error by Pedey which ended up scoring two runs after a ground out. He has gone longer than any of our starters so far including Price, with over 110 pitches. He finished the day with 6.2 IP 6 H 2 R 1 ER 3 BB 5 SO. Let's hope he continues his hot streak!
The bats just couldn't wake up today. Mookie was 0-4 making him 1 of his last 19 with 7 strikeouts. He got off to a slow start last year so let's hope the results are the same this year. Get out of the slump Mookie, you're too good for this! All the other Red Sox hitters were either hitless or only got one hit off of Estrada, expect for Hanley. Hanley had another great day at the plate. He was 3-4 giving him a .455 average to start the season. He has his timing back and could be the best Red Sox hitter this year. He also continued his aggressive base running style by stretching a single into a double.
Time for the Red Sox to start a 10 game home stand all against the AL East. Now is there time to catch some games off of the East and show there worthiness as a top team there. Price kicks off the home stand with the Fenway Opening Day start!
Final: Blue Jays 3 - Red Sox 0

The Lasershow is Back
After a rough night of pitching for Kelly, the thing the Red Sox needed the most was consistent starting pitching and they got that. It was a rough three innings for Porcello but after the third he was lights out. Bautista was his nemesis and everyone else was nothing to him. He had trouble getting his sinker to sink and left everything up in the zone and he was a few better swings away from being down 6-0, but he fought back. Pretty Ricky ended the game with 6 IP 7H 4R 4 ER 1 BB 7 SO and is now the first Red Sox pitcher not named David Price to get a win!
Pedroia's resurgence in this game was just what the Red Sox needed. He was the Red Sox player that stepped up big time just like the brockstar did yesterday. He went 3-5 with 2 rbis and was the kick starter to the offensive explosion. Pedroia also showed his grit and grind, making a great defensive play to keep the Jays from gaining momentum. He always puts 100% into everything he does and it showed today. His jersey was dirty and he did anything he could to win the ballgame. He is the heart and soul of this team.
The two big Red Sox pick ups last year, Hanley and Panda, had very opposite games. Hanley had a 1 hit game but it was a very big hit. He hit a ball that took a weird hop off the turf and skipped over Bautista's glove in right. With some heads up base running, he got a triple. He then scored in the next at bat after a wild pitch by Dickey. He seems to want to run more and is very aggressive on the base paths. I can't wait to see more of this. I love seeing a happy and healthy Hanley play. I don't love seeing a fat ass panda play. Pablo Sandoval went 0-4 with 3 strikeouts, 1 walk, 1 error (of fucking course), and 1 exploded belt. He looked terrible at the plate and his belt agreed with it. He took a big swing in his first at bat and that was when the belt came undone. I guess it wanted to leave his body because his fat was choking it. It's a sad life for his belt but once he gets back to his home on the bench, it'll be fine.
Rusney Castillo had a good game and is trying to prove his worth on his team. You can tell he does not want to stay on the bench and is trying to earn a starting spot by playing well in any advantage he gets. He was 2-4 with 1 run. The bullpen was also lights out after the 7th with 3 strikeouts and 0 earned runs. Robbie Ross Jr was a beast and I think it's safe to say he'll be competing with Price for the CY Young.
Final: Red Sox 8 - Blue Jays 4

Brock Holt is the GOAT
Who would think that Buchholz and Kelly would be undefeated this season. Wow, they are the GOATs. If only though. This is going to be a long season if every game expect when Price pitches, ends up like this. Joe Kelly looked terrible last night. He went 3 innings with 7 hits, 7 runs, 7 earned runs, 4 strikeouts, and 3 walks. He had no control of his 95+ mph fastball. It so confusing how someone with such great stuff could be that bad. He needs to take "a trip" to the DL again so he can find himself. Heck if he loses his job then maybe we should convert JBJ to a pitcher because he threw a ball from center to home at 101 mph. These last two games showed the desperate need of a strong #2 starter. Dombrowski make it happen please, sooner than later.
The bullpen was lights out after Kelly's shitty ass got out of the game. They retired 14 of the 15 batters faced and went 6 innings with 2 strikeouts, 1 walk, and no earned runs. They looked dominate and Taz recovered nicely from a bad game in Cleveland.
The Red Sox just ooze so much charisma from the 2013 team this year and yesterday's game was a perfect example of it. They just never gave up. They always kept fighting at every pitcher and even when down 7-2, they kept grinding. It's also the unlikely heroes to step up and respond big like in 2013. Brock Holt, or should I say the GOAT, had an insane night. He went 2-4 with a solo shot and clutch grand slam. He made the game more interesting to watch and brought all the fans into it after Donaldson's grand slam. His grand slam brought us back only down one run in the 6th, 7-6. Then the next inning later we were leading 8-6 after a clutch single by Hanley. Hanley doesn't look pull happy and seems more comfortable hitting the ball over the place, which is great. Another day another game where the Red Sox bats are saving these shitty Red Sox pitchers from a loss.
Farrell has made a great call so far by going with Holt and Shaw (the backups) this season. Combined they are 10 for 21 with 7 runs, 4 XBHs, and 8 RBIs. Who would have thought that Holt would come alive this season. He is showing how he needs to be an everyday player this season and not just against righties. I wonder what player will step up for us next and provide us with that clutch hit?
Final: Red Sox 8 - Blue Jays 6
And Clay Buchholz Still Sucks
If you ain't first, you're last. And that's how all Red Sox fans feel about Clay Buchholz. This man can not pitch decently for his life. He is either god right awful or a CY Young candidate. He needs to take lessons from Price, maybe try being a lefty so he can fucking pitch well and consistently. It is the first game of the season and he went 4 innings giving up 6 hits, 5 earned runs, and 3 walks. He now has an 11.25 era. This is going to be a long season.
The only exciting of this game was seeing the Red Sox bats wake up. They showed their potential in a game down to the wire. Brock Holt showed why he is a brockstar and worth being a starter. The Dominican Smash Brothers (credit to Carrabis) is now a thing too. David Ortiz and Hanley Ramirez went back to back for the first of hopefully many. Papi hit his 505th home run which put him ahead of HOFer Eddie Murray now into 26th all time. Big Papi is a baller and shows no mean of slowing down this season. To all the critics who thought he would not do well this season because of his age, thank you. You just put more wood inside of the burning fire that inspires Big Papi to play. He goes hard until the last out. One of the best so take these last great moments in.
The bullpen was not too much of a help either giving up two runs, one of them being the winning one over 4 innings. The Red Sox got the first loss out of the way and now can go on their 160 game winning streak.

The Price is Definitely Right
That's it. The Red Sox are going 162-0 with a free pass to the World Series. Get the Gold Bottles ready. But for real, what a game to start the season! It had it all: great hitting, pitching, and defense. What more could you ask for? Maybe a perfect game from Price but that is really it.
David Price is worth all $217 million so far. He pitched like a true ace and showed what an ace means. He had a few really hard innings especially the 4th inning with over 30 pitches but then he got out of the jam without giving up the lead. He had a few quick 1-2-3 innings to make up for it and overall had a great day. He went 6 innings with 5 hits, 2 earned runs, 2 walks, and 10 STRIKEOUTS! He was looking unhittable for a while. He mixed it up well using all four pitches and using the whole strike zone. The BBWWA should just give Price his CY Young award now because there's no hope for other american league pitchers to try. It's game over.
The Bullpen or should I say fire emoji. They were lights out. They all had an inning pitched with no hits from the 7th on. Taz and Kimbrel had two strikeouts each with a walk from Kimbrel. Koji as our new set up man, had one strikeout. Our bullpen looks amazing now but imagine it with a healthy Carson Smith. My mind can't compute that type of amazingness. Our bullpen could be a big strength and I am very happy with how it's going.
Mookie. Mookie. Mookie. Man, is he good. He went 2-5 with a two run bomb and made a great defensive play in the 4th robbing Rajai Davis from a triple. It was a huge play and saved Price's ass. From the words of Big Papi after the game, "Superstar, man. Superstar. He's got that swag. He has what the game needs right now". I couldn't agree with this quote from David any more.
Mike Trout, Bryce Harper, Jason Heyward, Andruw Jones, and Mookie Betts, what do they all have in common? They all have home runs in multiple opening day games as 23 years of age or younger. That list is insane and all HOF type players in the future. Mookie is a stud and candidate for MVP once again. I think the BBWWA should just make a joint deal with the Red Sox for multiple years where Price gets the CY Young and Mookie gets the MVP. I'm okay with that.
Big Papi was Big Papi once again on Opening Day. He hit his 5th opening day home run which leads the league now. He still has that swagger and his swing is beautiful. I am sad but excited to see him rake again one more time this season.
Price was exceptional but what about the rest of the rotation? We should just wait in see. We all need to pray for the healthy Clay Buchholz because when he is healthy, he is a stud. Kelly, needs to be like he was during the 8 game win streak last season and we're fine. Porcello needs to be himself after the DL last year and Wright needs to go 5 with a tie or lead so the bullpen can save the day. E-rod should be back late April / early May and he will provide a good arm who can actually pitch well. Let's hope last year was not a fluke for him. It's all a crab shoot and let's hope for the best.
I know we had a huge win opening day last year and Clay looked like he could be our ace so we can't get too hyped from today. But, today's team looked like a different team. I can definitely see aspects of the 2013 team in this team and that's great. It's always a relief to get the first win out of the way.
It's game 1 of 162 so let's keep rooting for out Sox and show them the love they need. It's gonna be a great season and lets keep the Red Sox conversation going with Red Sox nation.
